Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is our passion here at Harris Primary Academy Beckenham. It has grown over a number of years and all of the teachers have been a part of its development. We aim for a highly motivating and stimulating curriculum which encourages children to ask questions, be independent learners, collaborate and be aspirational. The curriculum is a way in which we make the learning meaningful for the children. It links topics from a variety of subjects to fit in with an overall topic or theme that children will learn about for a half term. It allows for problem-solving across all subjects and real-world application to the learning process, making it a more comprehensive way of educating and of learning.
We have ensured that all skills from the new National Curriculum are covered throughout the year - one topic might allow for more art/DT and music to be taught (e.g. Forever Friends) while another might cover more history and geography skills (e.g. The Land Before Time).
Curriculum maps for each half term will be placed on the school’s website under the relevant class information. Often other discrete areas are taught instead (e.g. Black History Month, National Book Week).
