Year 3

Week beginning 1st June.

On this page you will find the learning activities suggested by Miss Trushkina and Mr Strickland for the week. Please try to complete the tasks by Sunday 7th June as we will be refreshing the page with the following week's tasks then.

Message from your teachers:

Hi Robins and Wrens! Did you have a good half term and enjoy all that lovely weather? We did! We hope you are very rested and ready to keep up your excellent home learning attitudes. We are both so proud of how you've coped over the last month or so!

We have tried to reduce the amount of work on the PDFs for you, and are mainly focusing on Reading, Writing and Maths - but we've also kept a few foundation subjects for those of you who love Geography, RE, History etc. There will be one PE lesson a week, but you could do your own BBC Supermovers, PE with Joe Wicks or a Youtube Just Dance, if you want to. We are proud of you however much you are able to get done.

We are looking forward to chatting on the phone and seeing how your half-term was, and how your Home Learning is going. Can't wait to be able to all be back in our classrooms together!

Love from Miss Trushkina and Mr Strickland.

Additional message from Mr Strickland:

You've still got a week to finish (or start!?) your entry for Mr Strickland's DT competition. Research, design and make a pop-up, moving cam toy for your chance to win a fully functioning tool-kit. Email your research page, your designs and photos/videos of your final product to info@harrisprimarybeckenham.org.uk by Sunday 7th June

Here is the KS2 design brief - click it open and view on your device, or you can download it and print it off. If you would like some help with the researching and designing stage, I have put together these printer-friendly sheets - but feel free to use your own if you want! There's a lot of stuff on Twinkl for 'mechanical cam toys' to make your project even more professional, such as this research sheet. I can't wait to see what the children of KS2 get up to! Click here for a template for different cams and click here to see what other KS2 children have created if you're still looking for inspiration.

More information about each subject (useful for parents!)

Reading

The Wyrmstooth Crown is a fantastic story written by Twinkl. It is recommended that it should be read with an adult. However, you can decide how to do so. You can read this with your child, taking it in turns to read paragraphs or pages. If it is too tricky, then get your child to read some sentences and you can read the rest. Alternatively, you can listen to it as an audiobook together here:

If that doesn't work for you, you can find a pdf version here. There's also a really good interactive version which downloads as an app to the computer, available from Twinkl.

It is incredibly important that your child is reading every single day for at least twenty minutes - this could be the Wyrmstooth Crown or their own reading book.  Please record this in their reading records.

English

We have put together a planning process on the PDFs that the children will be familiar with, refining and generating their ideas before it culminates in an 'extended write' on the Friday.

There are plenty of templates online if your child would prefer, however we think that our layout would work fine on lined paper. If you have any questions or concerns about any of the home learning, please email info@harrisprimarybeckenham.org.uk.

Maths

We have given the children some daily maths work on the PDFs based on what we would have been learning at school. This should be completed in the Green Home Learning book alongside using Mathletics and Times Tables Rockstars. Once they have completed the days tasks, they will be able to access the games and fun area of Mathletics, such as Multiverse.

Your child has been set new learning on Mathletics. Please download the app or login online using the login details that they have been given. If they do not have their login details, please email info@harrisprimarybeckenham.org.uk with "STUDENT LOGIN" in the subject field.

Mathletics has been a huge success so far and we are looking forward to seeing your work this week.  These activities should be completed daily to maximise their time on the game, or you can let them build up and work through them at your own pace. On Sunday 10th, we will be setting new tasks for the following week.

This website (Hit The Button) is also great for testing your child's retrieval for their Times Table knowledge.
